Kitchen Trends 2024

According to the recently published Houzz UK Kitchen Trends 2024 Report, the craze for spacious and open kitchens is gaining momentum among homeowners.

The data highlights that three out of five homeowners are expanding the total size of their kitchens by more than half of the original space, reflecting a substantial commitment to creating more socially environments.

Interest in open-plan kitchens, known for their ability to enhance the perception of space, is also on the rise.

More than two in five homeowners are opting to make their kitchens more open to adjacent rooms as part of their renovation projects, while a third are embracing completely open-plan designs with no separating walls, which can make building control a little tricky!

In the realm of kitchen aesthetics, there's a noticeable shift away from neutrals (hurray!).

While grey remains a popular choice for cabinetry colour, it has experienced a slight decline of 2% compared to the previous year. Similarly, the dominance of white cabinetry has decreased by 4% although this is still the preferred option for rental properties.

On the other hand, green cabinetry and unpainted medium wood have seen significant increases (3% and 2% respectively), signalling a growing appetite for more vibrant and natural tones. We certainly experienced it with half of our fitted kitchens in 2023 being in various shades of either green or blue.

Another notable trend is the increasing preference for high-tech appliances among homeowners. Appliances with advanced technological capabilities are seeing a surge in popularity, with a 9-point increase noted in recent data. It’s worth noting that high-tech appliances are often more energy efficient and more easily controlled with wifi from anywhere in the world.

When it comes to selecting materials for cabinetry, flooring, and worktops, homeowners prioritise the look and feel above all else. However, the importance of easy cleaning and disinfection has slightly diminished this year as our memory of Covid-19 fades away. Nevertheless, brass fixtures are experiencing a resurgence in popularity, doubling in share compared to the previous year and overtaking chrome as the second most popular choice for handles. ProTip: Just need an update?

If you want to update your kitchen without spending a fortune all you have to do is spray-paint the doors in a new matt colour, change the worktops, change the handles and get a new splashback! All for a fraction of the cost of a new kitchen.
