That summer feel with colours & fabrics

Using lighter colours and materials for a home that looks and feels like summer

When it comes to home décor, sometimes the simplest changes can make the most significant impact. If you're looking to give your living space a fresh, cool, and inviting vibe, consider embracing lighter colours and materials. Here are some easy yet transformative tips to help you achieve this look.

Paint Refresh using off-whites and pastel hues

One of the quickest ways to brighten up your home is with a fresh coat of paint. I tend to do it at the end of spring or start of summer pretty much every year, which is why I spend a little bit more on scrubbable or wipeable paint!

Opting for light, airy colours like whites, pastels, and soft neutrals on your walls means they reflect light back into your room, creating an illusion of larger, more open spaces. This will not only make the rooms feel more expansive, but they often make the rooms feel more welcoming too.

Now imagine the calming effect of a soft pastel blue in your bedroom or the crisp, clean look of white in your living room, don’t’ they evoke a serene backdrop that almost spells ‘summer’?

Lightweight Fabrics

My other effective way to bring in that summer feel into the home is by swapping heavy fabrics for lighter ones. Heavy curtains and thick upholstery can make a space feel stuffy and dark.

Instead, choose lightweight materials like linen or cotton for your window treatments and furniture coverings and put the cashmere throws back in the airing cupboard.

Think of sheer, white curtains fluttering gently in the breeze or a cozy cotton sofa that invites you to sit back and relax.

These materials are the perfect fabrics for creating a light, airy ambiance that feels refreshing and comfortable.

Bringing It All Together

By combining light colours with lightweight materials, you can effortlessly update the look and feel of your home and make it style it more like a sanctuary of calm and coolness.

These are just simple tips that can make a world of difference and give you a fresh new look without the need for a complete overhaul or budget.

Your home will thank you, and so will your sense of serenity and comfort.
